FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State field hockey team captured a win Saturday afternoon at home against Mercyhurst by a final score of 5-2. This brings the Bobcats record to 1-2 and the Lakers to 1-4 on the season.
The Bobcats were quick to open scoring when sophomore Taylor Henderson hit the back of the net 48 seconds into the game. The defense between the Bobcats and the Lakers kept the score to 1-0 during the rest of the first half.
First year Heidi Van Dyk fired one home at the 46:08 mark with an assist from senior Gabby Rachuba to make it 2-0 FSU. Mercyhurst answered just 41 seconds later to make it a 2-1 game.
The Bobcats went on a three-goal scoring run starting at the 51:39 mark. The first came from Van Dyk with another assist from Rachuba. The next came from senior Brook Lafayette with an assist from first year Emilie Bonhivert. The final goal from Frostburg came at the 53:36 mark from Lafayette, with an assist from sophomore Emily Hughes, bringing the score to 5-1.
The Lakers ended the scoring for the game with one final tally at the 57:11 mark, make it a 5-2 game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Manalanson made five saves on the day, earning herself the win.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, April 24 at home against Washington College (Md.). The game is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. For more information, go to www.frostburgsports.com.
