SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio- The Frostburg State men's soccer team lost for the third time this season, falling 3-0 to the Notre Dame Falcons. The loss drops FSU to 2-3, while Notre Dame improves to 3-1.
Junior Joel Assal was called into action twice in the first 10 minutes of the game, making a couple saves against Filip Sparevec. Frostburg had an awkward chance that came as Bryce Costello hoofed a long volley from 35 yards out that was well seen and caught by Falcon goalkeeper Arvid Engstrom.
Notre Dame would get on the board first with a goal from Evans Armah, who was found at the top of the 18 by Malvin Gblah, and fired his shot into the bottom right corner. Neither side was able to conjure up a shot the rest of the half, making the score 1-0 going into the second half.
The teams were evenly matched to begin half number two, before first-year Bryce Costello received a second booking 13 minutes into the half, and FSU was forced to play a man down.
Notre Dame took control of possession, but couldn't find the target as their shots were high or wide. They took command of the game, however, as Antonio Bittencourt swung in a corner that was headed back into the six-yard box and nodded home from close range by Marcus Vinicius Pereira.
Any hope for a late Bobcat comeback washed away as first-year Joni Ndrenika received two yellow cards within a minute and a half of each other, leaving FSU with just nine men on the field. Notre Dame would close out the 3-0 win with a Carlos Almeida goal just over three minutes from time.
Frostburg is back on the field Friday, April 2, as they return to Bobcat Stadium for a 7 PM match against #15 Davis & Elkins. For more information head to frostburgsports.com
