Curtin PK Fuels Bobcats' 1-0 Win over Notre Dame

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State women's soccer got back to its winning way on Friday night, defeating Notre Dame (Ohio) by a score of 1-0 at Bobcat Stadium. The win moves the Bobcats to 3-1-1 on the season.

Frostburg's first chance of the night came from first-year Toni Fiocco-Mizer, who put a move on Notre Dame's Blake Allen that sent her down to the turf. Fiocco-Mizer fired with her right foot, but the ball calmly fell into the arms of Falcons' goalkeeper Jordan Pasalaqua.

Fiocco-Mizer would create another chance later in the half. The first-year played a nice ball forward for junior Lexi Pate, who struck one solidly on frame, but Pasalaqua was able to make the stop. Pate would challenge the netminder just a minute later, as first-year Hannah Thompson sent a brilliant ball up-field. Pasalaqua ran off her line to reach the ball before Pate could get a solid touch to it.

Notre Dame's best chance of the half came in the 30th minute, as Alyssa Soltis took a feed on the edge of the penalty area and ripped one with her right foot. First-year goalkeeper Ashley Bilger answered the call, making the stop to keep things scoreless.

Just prior to halftime, first-year Ashley Chew nearly put the Bobcats on the board. Chew took a pass at the top corner of the box and fired top left, forcing Pasalaqua to dive to get a fingertip on it and maintain a scoreless match at halftime.

In the early stages of the second half, a shot from about 25-yards out from Notre Dame's Madison Marino struck the cross bar, danced along the goal line, and rolled harmlessly towards the near sideline to keep it scoreless.

In the 79th minute, the Bobcats were able to strike. Junior Audra Curtin played Fiocco-Mizer forward, and the first-year was taken down in the box. Curtin stepped up to take the penalty kick and buried one in the bottom left to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

Notre Dame pieced together one final chance late looking to equalize. Marino once again swung one in from 25 yards out, forcing Bilger to reach up and deflect the ball over the crossbar to preserve the victory.

The Bobcats return to action next Friday night as they travel to Buckhannon, W.Va. to face West Virginia Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m. For more information, visit frostburgsports.com.
