SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio. - The Frostburg State women's volleyball team lost both games in the double-header against the Notre Dame Falcons. Frostburg fell in the first match in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-23, 25-15. Frostburg lost the second match of the night again losing in three sets by scores of 26-24, 25-19, 25-15. Sophomore Jackie Sterenberg led the Bobcats with 18 kills and four digs while sophomore Edwyna Lainez earned 43 assists with two kills on the evening.

The losses drop FSU to 0-9 on the season while Notre Dame moves to 4-5.

Frostburg started the first game taking a 4-1 lead off a kill from Sterenberg. A kill from first year McKaily Thomson-Moran put the Bobcats up 5-2. Later in the set, two kills from Sterenberg, along with an attack error from the hosts, tied the game at 9-9. The Falcons began to pull away until three straight Bobcat points brought FSU to within four at 20-16. Kills from first year Beverly Braun and Lainez would not be enough as the Falcons won the first set.

Both teams came out swinging in the second set as kills from first year Laken Michael and junior McKenna Houser tied it at 6-6. The set was evenly played as Braun and Sterenberg both registered four kills each which tied the game at 17-17. Three errors by the Falcons later in the set brought Frostburg to within two at 24-23, but Notre Dame captured the next point winning the set 25-23.

A kill from Sterenberg got the Bobcats a 3-1 lead until the hosts went on a six-point run to capture the lead 7-4 in the third set. A kill from Braun made it 7-5. The teams continued to battle until midway through the set when the Falcons struck a 7-0 scoring run to take a 21-9 lead. FSU answered with kills from Michael and Sterenberg, but it was not enough to come back giving the Falcons the victory in the first game of the night.

In the second contest of the double-header, FSU took the lead in the first set after a kill from Michael and a service ace from sophomore Bianca Smalls at 4-3. Three straight Michael kills, along with a service ace from Houser, gave the Bobcats an 8-4 lead. Another kill from Michael as well as Thomson-Moran kept a four point advantage four FSU at 10-6. Braun and Lainez both earned a kill to keep Frostburg ahead at 16-13. The Falcons gain momentum going on a seven-point scoring run to overtake the lead at 21-18. The Bobcats tied the game at 22-22 after two kills from Thomson-Moran, a kill from Sterenberg, and service ace from Braun. FSU were a point away from winning the set after an error by Notre Dame and a kill from Sterenberg at 24-23 until the Falcons scored three straight points to win 26-24.

Frostburg took the lead 7-4 early in the second set with kills from Michael and Braun as well as a couple of errors by the Falcons. Another kill from Braun kept FSU ahead at 9-5. Later in the set, a kill from sophomore Raven Pratt continued to keep the Bobcats ahead at 14-8. After a scoring surge by the Falcons to take the lead, a kill from Braun and an error by Notre Dame had FSU up 16-15. Braun hit another kill giving Frostburg a 17-16 lead. A kill from Michael kept Frostburg ahead by one at 18-17. Notre Dame controlled the end of the second set winning 25-19.

The Bobcats got on the board first to start the third set with an error from the Falcons. A kill from Braun along with another error gave FSU the lead at 3-2. A timely kill from Michael tied the game at 4-4. After falling behind, Sterenberg hit a kill to bring Frostburg within three at 9-6. Another kill from Sterenberg again kept the Bobcats within three at 11-8. Michael recorded three straight kills to bring FSU within two of the hosts at 13-11. After the Falcons began to pull ahead, a kill from Sterenberg kept FSU within five at 19-14. Notre Dame finished the set winning 25-15.
