Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Bobcats Fall Just Short in Home Opener

FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team dropped their home opener to the Walsh Cavaliers 16-12 on a foggy Thursday afternoon. The loss drops FSU to 0-2 on the season, while the Cavaliers move to 3-2.

Frostburg fell behind early 3-0, before sophomore Cammie Schniedwind got the Bobcats on the board at the 20 minute mark. The teams would trade goals back and forth, with the score at 5-3 13-minute in. The weather then became a factor, as fog delayed the game for a half hour before resuming.

After the stoppage, two quick Walsh goals gave the visitors a four-goal advantage before senior Stephanie King brought FSU back within three. Walsh scored another couple goals at the end of the half to give them a 9-4 halftime lead.

Another two goals after halftime gave the Cavaliers an 11-4 lead. First-years Anna Kearney and Grace Bagosy stopped the bleeding for Frostburg with goals that got FSU back within five. Walsh pushed their lead to six before a goal from Kearney and a pair of goals from Shniedwind got FSU to within three.

Both teams continued to trade goals until Walsh was able to go up by five at 15-10 with just five and a half minutes remaining. Frostburg tried to get back into the game with goals from sophomore Lily Stephens and Kearney, but Walsh's advantage was too much, as Frostburg fell in the end 16-12.

Hannah McFeeters led the Cavaliers with five goals on the day. Kearney and Schniedwind led the Bobcats with three goals apiece, while first-year Erin Bryce and Stephens each bagged two. King and Bagosy rounded out the Bobcat offense with a goal each.

Frostburg is back at home on Saturday, March 20 as they take on the Wilmington Wildcats at Bobcat Stadium. Game time is set for 1 PM, for more information visit frostburgsports.com
