WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The Frostburg State volleyball team lost on the road Friday evening against West Liberty. The final score on the evening was 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-23). This brings the Bobcats record to 0-7 on the season while the Hill Toppers move to 6-2.
Frostburg played West Liberty even for the first half of the opening set. First-year Beverly Braun had a kill to make the score to 8-8. After a Hill Toppers run the Bobcats got a kill from Sophomore Jackie Sterenberg to keep them within five points. The first set ended with another West Liberty run and a final score of 25-15.
Again, in the second set FSU traded points to start until taking the lead on a block by first-year McKaily Thomson-Moran and sophomore Edwyna Lainez. The Bobcats evened the score up later in the second set on a kill by senior Raven Pratt at 13-13. Thomson-Moran had back-to-back kills late in the set to make the score 23-20 before West Liberty was able to close out the set with the final two points.
First-year Laken Michael had an early kill to put Frostburg up 3-2. The third set was very competitive throughout with the biggest lead being five by the Hill Toppers. That lead was answered by an FSU run of five straight that included back-to-back service aces for sophomore Bianca Smalls. The hard fought third set ended 25-23.
The Bobcats were led in kills by Sterenberg totaling eight on the night. Pratt again led the team in blocks with five. The assist leader for Frostburg was Lainez with 25. Braun was the leader in digs with 14.
The Bobcats return to action March 2
