SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team lost on the road Wednesday evening to the Notre Dame (Ohio) Falcons with a final score of 84-76. Junior Agyei Edwards led the men with 26 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
The loss put Frostburg at 4-10 on the season while the Falcons move to 6-8.
After a slow start, the Bobcats found themselves down by five after graduate Canaan Bartley was fouled behind the arch and sent to the line where he converted all three shots making it 23-17 with ten minutes left in the half. A Bartley three-pointer followed by a layup from sophomore Jaylon Johnson put Frostburg down five at 27-22 at the 7:14 mark.
Senior Jihar Williams knocked down a three-pointer before Johnson came up with a steal on the following possession and nailed a three-pointer of his own to bring the Bobcats within four at 35-31 with 3:18 remaining. A three-pointer from first-year Sean Brown Jr. brought FSU within three of the host at 37-34 with two minutes in the half. A three-pointer from junior Agyei Edwards finished out the half giving the Falcons a two-point lead at 39-37 going into halftime.
Edwards hit a jumper after a Johnson steal to tie the game at 39-39 to open the second half. Junior Bo Schene started a 8-0 scoring run with a jump shot followed by a jumper from Edwards, a layup from senior Sean Patterson, and a layup from Schene to take the lead at 47-45 and force a timeout from the Falcons.
The Bobcats came out of the timeout and went on a 7-3 scoring run which was capped off with a three-point play from Brown Jr. to take a 54-48 lead at the 13:23 mark. Later in the half, Edwards would come up big for FSU hitting three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to keep Frostburg ahead 60-54 with 12 minutes remaining.
The Falcons slowly fought their way back to take the lead at 64-63 with seven minutes in the game. Edwards hit a jump shot at 5:41 followed by a three-pointer a minute later to take a 68-64 lead. Johnson converted two free throws to give the Bobcats a 70-66 lead at the 4:08 mark. The Falcons would go on a 15-4 scoring run before Johnson hit a jumper to bring the Bobcats within five points at 81-76 with 25 seconds remining. The Falcons closed out the game to win the game 84-76.
Johnson finished the night with 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists while Bartley recorded 12 points with four rebounds for the Bobcats.
