FROSTBURG, Md.- Junior Agyei Edwards' scoring efforts led the Frostburg State Men's Basketball team to a victory over Glenville State 99-93 at home on Wednesday evening.
Edwards and sophomore guard Jaylon Johnson carried the weight early as they scored the first seven points for Frostburg to jump out to an early 7-0 lead. Junior Torrin Stephens would get a bucket from a gorgeous pass from Johnson to give the Bobcats their biggest lead of the game at 34-18. The Pioneers would end the half on a 12-3 run to edge closer to FSU, as the teams went into the half with Frostburg up 47-45.
Glenville made an and-one to begin the half to give them their first lead of the game, but after that it was all Bobcats. Freshman Justin Roseme and Edwards knocked down a combined three straight three-pointers for Frostburg to push their lead to 58-51. GSC would get three straight buckets to cut the lead to one until Bo Scene hit a pull-up jumper to put Frostburg up 60-57. A key part in the ballgame was when redshirt freshman Jaylin Arbury came in and got three tough buckets and dished out three assists, which resulted in eight points. Edwards put the game out of reach with a dagger step-back three that ended any hopes of a Glenville comeback. After Edwards drained two free throws to give him 40 for the game, the Bobcat crowd and bench lit up with excitement as Edwards jogged back with a grin, as FSU made enough free throws down the stretch to come away with the 99-93 win.
In the contest, Edwards hit on all cylinders as he shot 63% percent from the floor to go along with 50% behind the arc, tallying a career-high 40 points. His final stat line read 40 points, five rebounds, and two assists, while Stephens added 19 huge points and nine rebounds, including six offensive boards, and Johnson contributed 10 points and a team-high four assists.
With the victory, Frostburg moves to 3-7 on the year and Glenville State drops to 3-4. The Bobcats are back in action Sunday December 12, as they travel to Concord at 2 p.m. For information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.
