Cappelletti's Goal Clinches Playoff Berth for Men's Soccer

FROSTBURG, Md- The Frostburg State men's soccer team took on West Virginia Wesleyan College in a 2-1 victory that clinched a playoff spot for FSU.

In the first half, WVWC started off strong with an early goal in five minutes from Javier De Ona Garcia to make the score 1-0. After both teams went back-and-forth with multiple stops and shots, FSU would answer back with a beautiful pass from freshman defender Sam Cryer that would lead to a header from junior forward Kenny Simms in the 31st minute, tying the game 1-1. Frostburg almost had the lead going into halftime, as a clever free kick from sophomore Alex Retzos came back off the post rather than into the goal.

In the second half, Frostburg would start off strong with both teams trading possession, but FSU would get the upper hand with a long throw in from freshman defender Caleb Dell to freshman forward Galo Cappelletti, who headed into the far post to make the score 2-1.

Frostburg out-shot Wesleyan 18-5, as senior goalkeeper Joel Assal would end the night making two saves.

With the win, Frostburg ends the season at 8-8-1, while WVWC falls to 7-8-2. FSU clinches a playoff berth, which will take place on Wednesday, November 10, as the opponent and time are to be determined. Tournament information and updates will be posted at www.frostburgports.com
