ELKINS, W. Va.- The Frostburg State men's soccer team traveled to No. 3 Davis & Elkins to take on the Senators in the Bobcats' first MEC Tournament game, losing 4-1.
The first half started with both sides playing hard and looking for an advantage. The Senators would get the first goal on a shot by Gianluca Fiorini in the 13th minute. They then struck again with a goal from Yavi Ortiz just seven minutes later to make the score 2-0. FSU would not give up easily and earned their opportunities, as freshman forward Abdur-Rahman Neama had two shots and one shot on goal. The first half, though, would end in a 2-0 lead for D&E.
In the second half, the Bobcats were given a lifeline, as a penalty was won and then converted by senior midfielder Daniel Juresic in the first minute of the half, making the score 2-1. The Bobcats would carry that momentum until a goal from Emili Figueroa-Morales 20 minutes later made the score 3-1. After some more shots from FSU, the Senators would add one more goal from Haruki Yamazaki to seal the deal for D&E, moving them in to the finals with a final score of 4-1.
Senior goalkeeper Joel Assal would make eight saves on 20 shots.
The Bobcats end their season with a record of 8-9-1 while the Senators head to the MEC Championship as they improve to 17-0-2. For more information and updates, visit
