WEST LIBERTY, W Va. – The Frostburg State volleyball team lost to the Hilltoppers on Friday evening. The final score of the match was 3-1(25-18,21-25,27-25,26-24).
The Bobcats opened the first match with some momentum scoring five points in a row to go up 8-4. Sophomore Beverley Braun had three early kills to help Frostburg to that lead. West Liberty would go on a five-point run of their own to push out ahead of the Bobcats and get a couple set points before putting FSU away 25-18.
To start the second set the Bobcats led off with a service ace from junior Bianca Smalls and an early kill from sophomore Sydney Hammond. The set traded points until another kill from Hammond put the Bobcats up 19-18, a lead Frostburg would maintain winning the second 25-21.
In the third set the Hilltoppers stormed out to an eight to nothing lead. The Bobcats would fight their way back into the set narrowing the gap until a kill from freshman AJ Thompson evened the score at 21-21. The lead changed hands five times at the end of the set before West Liberty was able to put together back-to-back kills and take the set.
Junior Jackie Sterenberg put the Bobcats up 7-6 for their first lead in the fourth set on a nice kill. From that point the very tight set was tied 12 times with neither team wanting to give an inch. West Liberty was able to end the match on three straight points.
