FROSTBURG, Md- Frostburg State Women's Soccer continued its winning ways, defeating West Virginia Wesleyan 3-1 on Wednesday evening at Bobcat Stadium.
Â
For the third straight game, FSU took an early lead, as less than seven minutes in, sophomore Toni Fiocco-Mizer made a great run down the left wing and crossed into the box, where a Wesleyan defender put the ball into their own net under pressure from sophomore Caroline Burton for a 1-0 Frostburg lead.
Â
Frostburg would continue to pepper WVWC's goal, with sophomores Hannah Thompson and Lela Clark, as well as Fiocco-Mizer forcing keeper Ally Moore into several saves. The FSU pressure would pay off, with Burton receiving a throw down the right wing and sending a cross to the back post, which senior Audra Curtin roofed into the top of the net for a 2-0 lead.
Â
In the second half, Wesleyan would pressure FSU initially, but Frostburg withstood their intensity and forced Moore into more saves with shots from Clark and freshman Cat Smith. The highlight in the half came on another throw that was flicked on by sophomore Ashley Chew into the path of Curtin, who crossed into freshman Keely Knotts. Knotts got a toe onto the ball, deflected off a defender and went under Moore for her first collegiate goal and a 3-0 lead.
Â
Wesleyan would get a consolation goal on a wonderfully taken free kick by Natalie Pireu, but Frostburg would come out winners for their third straight victory.
