GLENVILLE, W. Va.- The Frostburg State Women's Soccer team picked up another MEC victory on the road Saturday night against Glenville State, winning 3-0 after a weather delay started the game 45 minutes late.
Frostburg started out on the front foot, with sophomore Toni Fiocco-Mizer forcing keeper Jasmine Runk into a pair of saves within 15 minutes. FSU's next best chance to take the lead came on a Pioneer foul inside the 18, but senior Audra Curtin's penalty was saved by Runk. The Bobcats' pressure would lead to a goal, as with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half, sophomore Hannah Thompson swung in a corner that fellow sophomore Lela Clark was able to volley into the bottom-right corner for a 1-0 lead going into the half.
Starting out the second half, Clark would turn from scorer to provider, as she picked up the ball on a great run from Fiocco-Mizer and fed freshman Keely Knotts, who smashed home her second goal in two games for a 2-0 Bobcat lead.
GSC would come closest to a goal with a shot from Miki Abe cannoning off the crossbar, but sophomore Ashley Bilger's clean sheet remained intact. FSU would put the game to bed with another goal from a corner kick, as this time Clark swung it in, Runk missed her catch, and freshman Mackenzie Alonso was there to poke the ball home for her first collegiate goal and the final 3-0 result.
Bilger made three saves in earning her sixth clean sheet of the year, helped out by senior Stephanie Vigezzi playing out the final minutes and making a save to preserve the shutout.
With the win, Frostburg improves to 8-2-1 on the year, while Glenville falls to 1-9. The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, October 16 as they take on Wheeling for Homecoming Weekend, with kick-off set for 8 PM. For information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.
