FROSTBURG, Md.- Frostburg State Women's Soccer clinched the MEC North Division title with a commanding 3-0 win over Alderson Broaddus on Wednesday evening.
Â
The Bobcats got on the scoreboard quickly, as just five minutes in freshman Carolyn DeSena used a burst of pace down the right wing, feeding a cross into senior Audra Curtin, who tapped into an empty net.
Â
Frostburg went on to dominate most of the possession but were unable to create many meaningful chances outside of a Curtin free kick that was saved by Cloie Mosesso. With four minutes left in the first half, FSU was able to double their lead thanks to a mistake at the back from the Battlers, allowing freshman Mackenzie Alonso free on goal as she finished into the bottom right corner for a 2-0 halftime lead. Â
Â
The story in the second half was much the same as the first, with freshman Skylar Andrews testing Mosesso on a couple occasions. With six minutes left in the match, senior Heather Finney was brought down in the box, giving the Bobcats a penalty kick. Sophomore Dezirae Mortimer was the one to step up, sending Mosesso the wrong way to score her first collegiate goal and putting AB away 3-0. Finney had the last chance of the evening, blazing a shot just over the crossbar as FSU ended the game outshooting the Battlers 18-4.
Â
With the win, Frostburg improves to 11-3-1 on the year, while AB falls to 1-12-1. The victory means that FSU clinches the North Division title, their second straight title after having won the Central Division in the 2020 season played in the Spring of 2021. The Bobcats next travel to Charleston on Saturday, October 30 for a 4 p.m. game. For information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.Â
