Field Hockey Falls to Top-Ranked Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State field hockey team traveled to face the number one-ranked Shippensburg Raiders, falling 11-0.

The Raiders started off things quickly, earning an early corner and then putting away the first goal just under two minutes into the game. From that point on, senior Maggie Haupt faced a barrage of shots, including 13 total in the first quarter, coming up with eight saves. The Bobcats surrendered two goals in the quarter.

The second quarter started very similar to the first, with an early goal from the Raiders. The Bobcats did get their lone shot on the day when sophomore Heidi Van Dyk had an attempt on cage that was saved. Shippensburg was able to add three more goals before the half, making the score 6-0.

The second half was akin to the first, with the Bobcats giving up two goals in the third quarter and three in the fourth. In total, FSU faced 50 shots with 35 being on target. Haupt finished with 21 saves on the day and freshman Olivia Wenzel had three defensive saves during the game.

The Bobcats will wrap up the 2021 season on a weekend trip to the Carolinas. Frostburg will first face Queens (NC) at 12 p.m. on Saturday and follow that up with a game against Coker again at 12 p.m. on Sunday. For all things Frostburg athletics visit frostburgsports.com.
