ATHENS, W. VA.- The Frostburg State volleyball team went on the road to face Concord, as they took the match the distance, winning 3-2.
Frostburg came back from being down 16-8 in set one, scoring seven straight points to get the score to 22-20 CU, but the Mountain Lions would hold off the rally, winning 25-21.
FSU went out strong in the second set, scoring 11 straight points to take a commanding 17-6 lead. Concord would get back within five at 21-16, but four straight Bobcat points ended any threat of a comeback.
CU took a back-and-forth third set 26-24 after another FSU comeback attempt, with the Mountain Lions needing just one more set to win the match.
In set four, the Bobcats used another early scoring run to build their advantage, getting eight straight points to go up 14-6. Concord would not get within seven of Frostburg the rest of the set, as FSU forced a fifth set with a 25-16 win.
Concord jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the deciding set, but FSU responded with a six point run to go up 8-7. With the score at 9-9, Frostburg took four straight points, featuring a pair of aces from redshirt sophomore Hayley Delor, to go up 13-9. A kill from sophomore Sydney Hammond was followed by a block from sophomore Beverly Braun to give the Bobcats the win 15-10 and a 3-2 match victory.
Braun was strong on the night, leading the team in kills (21), digs (22), and points (26), while adding four service aces. Delor would lead the team in assists (51) and added five aces herself. Freshman middle hitter AJ Thompson would lead the team in total blocks with six.
With the win, FSU improves to 6-15 while CU falls to 5-13 on the season. The Bobcats will next travel to Philippi, W. Va. to take on Alderson Broaddus on Tuesday, October 26 at 7 PM. For more information and updates, visit
