FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State Volleyball team recorded a three-set sweep of Glenville State Tuesday afternoon for their second Mountain East victory.

Frostburg started out hot in the first set, getting the first six points off of strong serves from junior Bianca Smalls, eventually pushing the lead to 11-3 with a kill from junior Jackie Sterenberg. With the lead at 13-7, FSU rattled off 10 straight points to take a commanding 23-7 lead with Smalls serving up three aces. The Bobcats would take two of the next three points to win the set in convincing fashion 25-8.

Set two began in a more even fashion, with the sides trading points to get the score to 11-10 Frostburg. FSU would get the next four points with a pair of kills from Sterenberg to get the lead to 15-10. Glenville fought back to get within 16-15. Frostburg took a 19-15 lead but was again pushed back by GSC to get the score to 21-20, but four straight Bobcat points, rounded out with a kill from sophomore Beverly Braun, ended the set 25-20.

Much like set one, FSU got out to an early lead in the third set, going up 4-1 and then 10-4. Glenville came back strong to tie the match at 11-11 and would eventually take a 16-15 lead. Frostburg would not let the set slip away, as they earned nine of the next eleven points to get to match point at 24-18, featuring a couple nice kills from freshman AJ Thompson. GSC staved off two match points, but finally fell on a block from Thompson to end the set 25-20 and end the match 3-0 in favor of Frostburg.

Sterenberg led the team with eight kills, Smalls collected four aces, and Braun and freshman Fiona Gonzalez Medina led the defense with 13 digs apiece. Redshirt sophomore Hayley Delor added to her impressive season with 22 assists.

With the win, the Bobcats improve to 5-15 while the Pioneers fall to 2-12. Frostburg returns to action Friday, October 22 as they travel to Concord for a 7 p.m. match. For information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.
