Football Gets Win on Homecoming Over Wheeling, 41-17

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State Bobcats football team defeated the Wheeling Cardinals on Homecoming by a score of 41-17.
The Cardinals got the action going quickly with a touchdown within the first three minutes of the game, going up 7-0. The Bobcats would knot the score back up at 7-7 with a four-yard touchdown run from senior Gavin Lavat a few minutes later. After that, the Bobcats would begin to light up on the offensive side of the ball via big play opportunities.

Into the second quarter, senior Malcom Facey busted through the defense and ran 64 yards for a touchdown, putting Frostburg State up 14-7. Moving forward into the second, senior Malik Morris would haul in a 40-yard touchdown pass from redshirt freshman Graham Walker, giving the Bobcats a 21-7 lead. Wheeling would tack on a 28-yard field goal late in the second quarter, but the Bobcats would take a 21-10 lead into halftime.

When the clock flipped to the second half, graduate student Zae Giles lined up to take the kickoff to open the half. However, he would take that kick and return it 91-yards for a score. The was the first time since the year 2000 that a Bobcat returned a kickoff for a touchdown, giving FSU a 31-10 advantage. Giles wasn't done scoring, as later in the third he caught a 65-yard touchdown putting FSU up 38-10.
The fourth quarter was relatively quiet, with Wheeling scoring off a touchdown pass, but sophomore Dayne Koontz added a 23-yard field goal late as the Bobcats would go on to grab victory 41-17.
