FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State Field Hockey team dropped a mid-day homecoming contest to Mansfield 2-0. The game was the first of five homecoming contests in Frostburg.
Â
The game started slowly for both sides, as there were no goals scored in the first half with each team only getting off two shots.
Â
The action picked up one minute into the third quarter as Mansfield fired off two shots that were blocked, but ended up resulting in a penalty corner. With the corner, Kelsey Robertson found Kenedy Stroup and she guided a shot by junior Bobcat goalie Madison Manalansan for a 1-0 lead.
Â
With a little less than eight minutes left in the game, the Mountaineers added an insurance goal as Alex Esterling found the back of the goal to go up 2-0. The Bobcats threatened at the end of the game as freshman Olivia Wenzel found space for a shot, but was denied by Mountaineer keeper August Lewis.
Â
The loss takes Frostburg to 1-12 on the year as Mansfield improves to 8-6. The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, October 20 at Bobcat Stadium as they will take on Indiana University of Pennsylvania. For information and updates stay tuned at frostburgsports.com.
