BECKLEY, W. Va. - The Frostburg State men's soccer team went on the road to face Concord in a narrow 2-1 win on Friday afternoon.
In the first half, the Bobcats came out early with a goal by junior defender Isaiah Dell in the 14th minute. From there, it would be relatively a quiet half for both teams, with senior goalkeeper Joel Assal forced to make just one save going into the half.
In the second half, there would be many shots by both teams, but not many were on target. In the 80th minute, Assal made a save in the center of the goal, but the rebound fell to Michael Shelor, who equalized for CU. With the clock winding down, sophomore Bryce Costello latched onto a loose ball at the edge of the box and hit the ball across the face of goal, where freshman Zach Harpel slid in to tap home and win the match with less than a minute remaining.
The goal was Harpel's team-leading third of the year, while Assal would end the night with a pair of saves as both teams had three shots on goal.
With the win, the Bobcats improve to 5-5-1 while the Mountain Lions fall to 0-11 on the season. Next up for Frostburg will be Wheeling on Saturday, October 16 at 6 PM, where it will be FSU's homecoming weekend and senior day for the men's team. For more information and updates, visit
