ATHENS, W. Va. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team battled hard Saturday evening, but came up short to the Concord Mountain Lions 69-60. Senior Jihar Williams led the Bobcats with 14 points and one rebound.
Frostburg falls to 2-5 on the season while Concord advances to 4-3.
A three-pointer from Williams followed by a jumper from senior Sean Patterson tied the game early at 5-5. Williams again hit another shot from deep followed by a layup from junior Agyei Edwards to bring the Bobcats within two 17-15 with 11 minutes to play in the half.
A three-pointer from sophomore Jaylon Johnson along with a jumper from Edwards and two free throws from junior Jamil Jones powered a Frostburg 7-4 scoring run to close the half down five 36-31.
Junior Juston Bailey made a layup to start the second half for FSU. Bailey later converted on a free throw to bring the Bobcats within three 37-34. A Williams three-pointer, a three-point play from Edwards, and a layup from senior Desmond Rene sparked a 9-0 scoring run for Frostburg to take the lead 43-42 with 13:34 left to play.
Williams hit another shot from deep to overtake the lead 49-47 at 10:34. Rene again made a layup to keep the Bobcat lead 51-50. The Mountain Lions went on a 6-0 scoring run and began to pull away until junior Bo Schene nailed a three-pointer to keep Frostburg within two 56-54.
Patterson hit a jumper to again keep FSU within two 62-60 with two minutes to play. Concord finished the game strong with a 9-0 scoring run to take the win 69-60.
Edwards finished the night with 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Jones recorded six points with five rebounds and two assists while Schene ended with six points and three rebounds for the Bobcats. Bailey also tallied six points with four rebounds.
