CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team lost on the road Wednesday evening to the University of Charleston Golden Eagles with a final score of 98-66. Sophomore Jaylon Johnson led the Bobcats with 14 points, two rebounds, and three assists while junior Agyei Edwards also earned 14 points with two rebounds.
The Bobcats drop to 2-4 on the season while the Golden Eagles advance to 5-2.
Junior Bo Schene got FSU on the board with back-to-back layups before junior Jamil Jones hit a jump shot to take the lead 6-4 at 15:34. A jumper from Edwards again gave Frostburg the lead 10-8 at 13:18. Charleston went on a 14-7 scoring run until Johnson made a jump shot to keep the Bobcats within eight 29-21. FSU went into halftime down 44-28.
Edwards opened the scoring for Frostburg with a three-pointer 30 seconds into the second half to make it 46-31. Junior Juston Bailey nailed a three-pointer before Edwards converted on another three-pointer the following possession to make it 56-37 with 16:22.
FSU went on a 5-2 scoring run which featured jumpers from Johnson and senior Desmond Rene making it 86-56 with 6:13 left in the game. Johnson was fouled on a shot behind the arch and was sent to the line where he converted all three shots with 2:01 left to play. First-year Jaylin Albury earned the last points for Frostburg successfully making one free throw with 1:34 left in the game. The Golden Eagles captured the win 98-66.
Jones ended the night with ten points and five rebounds while senior Sean Patterson recorded eight points with four rebounds. Schene contributed five points with eight rebounds and two assists for the Bobcats.
