Bobcat Women Drop Home Contest Against Wheeling

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team lost its first game of the season to the Wheeling Cardinals 83-77 Wednesday evening. Senior Jada Holland finished the night with 14 points and six rebounds while junior Morgan Dombroski also had 14 points with two rebounds, one assist, and seven steals.
 
The Bobcats fall to 2-1 on the season while the Cardinals advance to 2-1.
 
With 2:48 left to play in the first quarter, sophomore Ciara Thomas completed a three-point play to put Frostburg down only 16-15. First-year Rhiana Hall opened the second quarter of play with a layup to keep the score within one at 18-17.
 
Midway through the second quarter, first-year Brenae Ford nailed a jumper followed by a three-point play from Dombroski trimmed the Cardinal lead to 27-24. Frostburg finished the half strong with a jumper from Ford and a three pointer from Thomas to close the scoring gap at halftime 41-36.
 
With 2:00 left in the third quarter, FSU went on a 13-6 scoring run powered by a layup and a three-pointer from junior Drew Dunathan to keep within striking distance at 56-53. At 6:21 left to play in the game, Dombroski completed a layup followed by a steal on the next possession. She converted on another layup keeping FSU close 66-62.
 
The Bobcats went on an 8-0 scoring run with 5:19 left to play in the game before Dombroski hit a layup to take the lead for Frostburg 72-71. Holland tied the game again after another layup with 1:20 left to play. The Cardinals successfully made a free throw to go up by four until sophomore Arianna Briggs-Hall hit a layup to keep the Bobcats within two 79-77. Wheeling closed the game converting on four free throws to earn the win for the Cardinals.
 
Holland finished the game shooting five-of-eight from the field. Thomas had 13 points with four rebounds and four assists while Ford earned 12 points with four rebounds.
 
The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 16th as they travel to West Liberty to take on the Hilltoppers. Tipoff is set for 2:00 pm. For more information go to www.frostburgsports.com.
