FSU Drops Two At Queens (N.C.)

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday at Queens University of Charlotte. The Bobcats lost their opener to the host Royals, 10-2 in five innings, and they dropped their second game of the day to Lees-McRae, 4-1.
 
Senior Claire Hanlon, junior Aliyah Ramey and sophomore Kennadie Batchelor posted a hit in each game on Saturday.
 
Game One
FSU plated its first run in the top of the third inning that tied the game at one run apiece against Queens.
 
The Royals homered in the second for a 1-0 cushion before Bobcat sophomore Amber Keene hit a pop fly that was dropped in the outfield that scored first-year Brianna Powell.
 
Queens jumped ahead 3-1 with two runs in the home half of the third, but FSU plated another solo run in the fifth to narrow the gap to 3-2. Junior Taylor McCarty reached on an infield error and senior Claire Hanlon scored.
 
The Royals smacked two more home runs in the bottom of the fifth as part of a seven-run frame that ended the game in five innings.
 
Hanlon finished 1-for-1 with a run scored, while junior Aliyah Ramey was 1-for-2 with a walk. McCarty suffered the loss after allowing four earned runs in 2.0 innings of work while fanning one.
 
Game Two
Lees-McRae jumped out to a 3-0 lead through three innings in the second game. Caitlyn Ray single home a run in the second and Cora Detter doubled home another run in the third to highlight the McRae lead.
 
FSU narrowed the score to 3-1 in the top of the fourth. Ramey singled to center field and three batters later, Batchelor scored Ramey with a single.
 
Mallory Myer scored the game's final run on a sacrifice fly to centerfield in the sixth for the win.
 
Frostburg finished the second game with six hits, while junior Emily Talbert endured the loss in the circle. She tossed all 6.0 innings and allowed four earned runs with three strikeouts.
 
Frostburg returns to action tomorrow when it takes on Lees-McRae at 11:00 am and Queens at 1:30 pm.
