GILBERT, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association recently announced the 2019 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division II Scholars of Distinction.
Bobcat first-year players Morgan Mathews and Cassidy Trojan were among 89 student-athletes at the DII level to be honored for achieving a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year.
Both Mathews and Trojan boasted perfect 4.0 GPAs in the fall and both were recently to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division II National Academic Squad. Mathews, an earth science major, and Trojan, a nursing major, were among 12 field hockey players to be named to the academic squad.
However, because of their 4.0 GPAs, Mathews and Trojan were named Scholars of Distinction.
On the field, Mathews appeared in 14 games and made four starts, while Trojan appeared in 16 games and made eight starts.
This is the fifth-consecutive year that a Frostburg student-athlete has been named a Scholar of Distinction.
