Bobcat Wins Midweek Showdown Against Concord

FROSTBURG, Md. – It was a special night for the Frostburg women's basketball team as a new and renovated Bobcat Arena was unveiled for the first time for a home athletic event of the 2019-20 athletic year on Thursday.
 
The Bobcat women rode that excitement and packed house to a 54-51 win over visiting Concord.
 
It was the first home game of the season for the women as the arena had been undergoing renovations since August.
 
Senior Amanda Emory scored 18 points and Frostburg led for much of the night. Emory knocked down a three-pointer with 1:54 showing on the first quarter clock as FSU jumped out to an 8-7 advantage. On the ensuing possession, first-year Arianna Briggs-Hall hit a layup as FSU led 10-7. Sophomore Morgan Dombroski closed the first with a jumper with five seconds left for a 12-7 lead.
 
Emory and graduate Victoria Diggs hit back-to-back three-pointers midway through the second as the Bobcats surged to a 21-14 cushion. Sophomore Anhai Allen hit a three at 3:21 and Frostburg led 24-16 at intermission.
 
The Mountain Lions closed the gap very quickly in the third quarter with an 8-0 run over the first 3:10 to knots things at 24-24. The Bobcats rebounded to extend their lead back to five, 30-25, behind a pair of free throws from senior Sydney Stotler and a layup from first-year Kaitlyn Rogers. Concord led by one, 33-32 after three.
 
Frostburg opened the fourth frame with a 6-0 run for a 38-33 lead following jumpers from Emory at 9:00 and 8:20. She later hit a three-pointer from the top of the circle for a 41-37 advantage.
 
FSU pushed its lead to a game-high nine points just past the midway point of the thanks to an 8-0 run. Emory started the spurt with running layup at 5:42 and Allen capped it with a layup at 4:20.
 
The Mountain Lions had one final run in them and battled back to within two 51-49 with 22 seconds left. However, Diggs sank two free throws with 15 seconds left and one more with eight seconds showing for a 54-51 edge. Concord's three-pointer in closing seconds was off target to help seal the win for FSU.
 
Diggs finished the evening with 15 for Frostburg as the hosts connected o seven three-pointers and outrebounded Concord 46-41.
 
Madison May led the visitors with 21 points, while Maggie Guynn posted 16 points.
 
FSU returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Glenville State at 2:00 pm.
