FROSTBURG, Md. – First-year Lilly Stephens and first-year Jordan Kenney each scored four goals to help Frostburg to a dominating 18-6 win over Chestnut Hill in non-league women's lacrosse action, Saturday.
The Bobcats evened their record at 1-1 overall thanks to a 9-0 scoring run that spanned both halves. When the spurt ended with 27:02 left in the second, the Bobcats led by 10, 14-4.
Frostburg added the exclamation point to the afternoon with the game's final four goals to set the final at 18-6.
Stephens finished with six points on four goals and two assists, while Kenney scored four times. In total eight different Bobcats scored as they won their first season opener in three years.
Junior Teresa Stabler earned the start and win in the cage, stopping 12 shots and allowing just six goals. Junior Summer Cavey scooped up nine ground balls and paced both teams with 12 draw controls.
Frostburg closed the opening half on a 6-0 run for a 11-4 cushion at the break. That spurt continued with the first three tallies in the second half.
Stephens started the scoring outburst with an unassisted tally at 9:45 in the first. Kenney scored back-to-back goals in the 10
th minute for the Bobcats and first-year Cammie Schniedwind scored at 7:27 for a 9-4 lead.
Stephens (5:30) and King (1:13) scored the final two goals on the opening half for an 11-4 lead at the break. Stephens found sophomore Shelby Burnett just 1:19 into the half for a 12-4 advantage. Cavey made it 13-4 just 35 seconds later and first-year Cam Sawyer found Kenney at 27:02 to push the lead to 10, 14-4.
Chestnut Hill answered with back-to-back goals at 25:35 and again at 24:17.
However, the Bobcats closed the door on the contest as Stephens and first-year Camron Baldwin closed the game with two goals each inside the final 20 minutes.
The Bobcats return home on Wednesday when they host Shepherd at 5:00 pm.
