BELMONT, N.C. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team opened its 2020 campaign on Saturday with a 22-6 loss at Belmont Abbey.
The host Crusaders jumped out to a 10-0 cushion using the first 19 minutes of the game before the Bobcats got on the board.
First-year Cammie Schniedwind scored her first collegiate goal with 9:26 showing in the first half off an assist from sophomore Shelby Brunett.
Abbey tacked on three more goals before FSU scored for the second time. This time, Schniedwind connected with first-year Maura O'Neil for her first collegiate goal as the scoreboard read 13-2.
Belmont Abbey opened the second half in a similar fashion as the hosts posted a run of four-straight goals for an 18-2 lead.
The Bobcats' third goal of the afternoon came at 20:10 when Bobcat first-year Lilly Stephens scored for the first time.
Lilly Stephens scored again at 9:55 during a free position shot for the Bobcats' fourth goal of the afternoon.
The fifth goal for the Bobcats' came when sophomore Emily Chick shot and scored with 4:58 left in the second half.
The Bobcats' sixth and final goal came at 1:45 by Bobcat Stephanie King during a free position shot.
The Bobcats were outshot on the afternoon 22-6 and the hosts posted an 18-10 advantage in draw controls.
Junior Teresa Stabler got the start in net for the Bobcats and notched seven saves, while allowing 14 goals. Senior Jasmin Tirado-Viscalla played second half and made three saves facing 11 shots, allowing 8 goals.
Kylie Eastman led Belmont Abbey with three goals and three assists.
Frostburg returns to the field on Thursday at Alderson Broaddus at 4:00 pm.
