Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Celebrates Senior Day

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State celebrated its five men's basketball seniors Saturday evening prior to FSU's game with Wheeling. The Bobcats battled for 40 minutes, but ended up on the losing end of a 77-71 final score to the Cardinals.

The game started strongly for FSU, who scored 11 straight points before Wheeling called an early timeout in the first five minutes of the first half. The Cardinals responded with an 11-0 run of their own before embarking on a 10-0 run right before the third media timeout of the first half.

Frostburg closed the gap to one point with 29 seconds to play, but Wheeling's Emmanuel Ansong threw down a dunk just before the halftime break to put the Cardinals up 38-35.

In the second half, both teams traded early jabs in what was shaping up to be a high scoring 20 minutes. Both team's defenses tightened up later in the second half, but Wheeling led for all but 1:33 of the second half.

Senior Daniel Alexander scored 10 straight points to start the second half, which helped the Bobcats get close to the Cardinals down the stretch. However, Alexander was limited to just one point in the final 11:22 of the second half.

Frostburg trailed by two with 19 seconds left, which seemingly set up another familiar scenario for Bobcat fans. Alexander went up the floor and took a short-range shot, but the basket did not fall. Wheeling would corral the defensive rebound, draw a pair of fouls, and put the game out of reach in the final 10 seconds with four successful free throws.

Alexander, fittingly enough, led all players on the court with 25 points scored after connecting on 10 shots from the floor. He also pulled in eight rebounds, dished out a pair of assists, and stole two passes. Classmate Demetrich Williams and junior Joe Adedayo reached double-digits at 10 points apiece.

The Bobcats host their final home game of the season on Wednesday against Davis & Elkins at 7:30 p.m.
