CARY, N. C. – The Frostburg State baseball team dropped their first ballgame of the season in North Carolina to East Stroudsburg by a score of 22-7. Junior Jared Mouton went 1-for-5 in the game driving in three runs. While on the mound, senior Chris Roosevelt tossed two innings in relief, fanning two batters while not surrendering an earned run.
East Stroudsburg came out of the gate firing with four scored runs in the first inning behind one triple and a pair of doubles by the Warriors. In the top of the second, FSU got a one out double from senior Mitch Fyffe bringing two Bobcats into scoring position. ESU responded with getting junior Bret Fogle to ground into a fielder's choice ending the inning.
The Warriors lead grew to nine before the Bobcats got on the board. In the top of the fourth inning the Bobcat bats got hot. Junior Lucas Nakich started the inning off by getting hit by the pitch. First-year catcher, Hayden McLaughlin then walked and advanced to second on the passed ball. Nakich moved all the way to third. Fogle then walked to load the bases
Mouton stepped to the plate and drove in three runs after a frozen rope to centerfield cleared the bases. Senior Ryan Roell then reached on an error by ESU leading to Mouton scoring from second. Junior Bryce Jackson drew a walk and first-year AJ Campbell reached on another error by East Stroudsburg allowing Roell to score. Fyffe hit a fly ball to the third basemen that was dropped, leading to two more Bobcat runs making the score 9-7 Warriors.
ESU responded in the bottom half of the fourth inning with one run. After blanking the Frostburg lineup in the top of the fifth inning, the Warriors tacked on two more runs to make it 12-7 ESU.
Over the next four innings, East Stroudsburg added 10 runs to their lead making the final score 22-7 ESU. The Bobcats drew nine walks in the ballgame with two extra base hits and a stolen base from Fogle.
