Diggs Scores 20, Bobcats Lose To Urbana

FROSTBURG, Md. – Graduate Victoria Diggs scored 20 points, while senior Amanda Emory and first-year Kaitlyn Rogers each finished in double figures as Frostburg dropped a mid-week MEC game to Urbana, 66-59, Wednesday.
 
The Bobcats settle at 4-19 overall on the season and 3-14 in the MEC, despite having three players score in double figures.
 
Diggs led the way with 20 points and she also finished with six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Emory scored 12 points and Rogers led all bench players with 13.
 
Tyra James finished with 17 points to lead Urbana, while both Sylvia Hudson and Bailey Draughn each added 14.
 
The Blue Knights led by as many as 12 points midway through the first quarter following a three-pointer from Kami McEldowney. Moments later, Kasey Knippen hit a three-pointer for an 18-6 cushion. FSU closed the first on a 5-0 run that narrowed the deficit to 18-11.
 
In the second, Frostburg again used a 5-0 scoring run to pull itself within four, 22-18 following a layup from Emory at 5:32. Sophomore Morgan Dombroski closed the first half with a layup with 25 seconds left to pull the Bobcats to 31-25.
 
Diggs hit back-to-back baskets in the third frame as Frostburg pulled to within three, 39-36. She hit a three-pointer at 7:00 and a jumper at 5:31 as the score read 39-36. Dombroski hit a foul shot at 5:11 and Diggs added a layup at 4:40 as the Bobcats tied the game at 39. The Blue Knights closed the quarter on a 13-3 run to lead by 10, 52-42 following the third.
 
Frostburg again made a run in the fourth quarter, using an 8-1 run before the five-minute mark to pull within two, 54-52. Rogers scored four points during the outburst. The Blue Knights slowly pulled away until the final horn, winning 66-59.
 
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday at Notre Dame at 2:00 pm.
