FSU Lose To West Virginia State

MCHENRY, Md. - The Frostburg State women's basketball team fell to the West Virginia State Lady Yellow Jackets, 93-64, Saturday night. The loss takes Frostburg to 3-17 overall (2-12 MEC) while West Virginia State moves to 8-12 overall (6-7 MEC).

First-year Ciara Thomas led the Bobcats with 16 points with one steal and two rebounds while grad student Victoria Diggs contributed 11 points with five rebounds and two assists. First-year Arianna Briggs-Hall finished with nine points from four-of-eight shooting with two steals and six rebounds.
 
The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore Chloe Cheresne with 18 points and five rebounds. First-year Destiny Fields contributed a double-double off the bench with 15 points and 12 rebounds.   

The Bobcats were fighting for a comeback late in the first quarter as first-year Morgan Dombroski hit a layup in the paint bringing the score 11-8. Sophomore Anhai Allen brought the team within five as she hit a jumper at 2:05 in the first quarter for a 16-11 score. Sophomore Drew Dunathan closed out the first quarter scoring with a layup for a first quarter score of 20-13.

The second quarter kicked off with Thomas nailing a three-pointer before the Bobcats headed into a scoring drought for two minutes. Thomas knocked down two free throws at 7:54 for a score of 31-18. Frostburg hit eight points in an 8-4 run against the Yellow Jackets. The quarter closed out with more free throws and a layup from Thomas to the Yellow Jackets the 46-34 lead.

In the third quarter, the Bobcats 21 points came from six different players. A layup from Diggs brought the team within 10 for a 46-36 score. A three-pointer, jumper, and layup from Diggs, Dombroski, and junior Grace Butera, respectively, gave the Bobcats 50 points. The quarter closed out with Allen converting a free throw for a 78-55 score.

The Bobcats started out the fourth with a jumper senior Amanda Emory at 7:24. Senior Sydney Stotler hit a layup at the end of the quarter for a final score of 93-64.
