Bobcats Drop Narrow Contest To League Leader Notre Dame

CUMBERLAND, Md. – Three starters scored in double figures and Frostburg hung with league-leader Notre Dame for much on Wednesday night's MEC matchup. However, the Falcons pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 72-63 win.

The loss drops FSU to 2-11 overall and 1-6 in the league.

Senior Amanda Emory led FSU in scoring for the third-straight game as she poured in 22 on 10-of-14 shooting. She also snared eight rebounds.

Graduate Victoria Diggs finished with 19 points, six rebounds, three three-pointers, three assists and three steals. First-year Ciara Thomas totaled 11 points, four boards, three assists and two steals.

Nether team shot better than 40 percent from the floor and Notre Dame used 23 made free throws for the different the visitors also turned 22 Frostburg turnovers into 26 points.

Seina Adachi led all players with 24 points and eight rebounds. She connected on three three-pointers and was 9-of-11 at the foul line. Jada Marone scored 19 points with four assists and four steals. She also finished 11-of-13 at the charity stripe. Together Marone and Adachi made 20 of ND's 23 free throws.

Frostburg led 34-28 at the break thanks to eight points each from Diggs and Emory. FSU also shot 46.9 percent from the field with 15 baskets.

On the flip side, Notre Dame shot just 30.0 percent with nine baskets.

 The Bobcats emerged with a four-point cushion early in the second quarter. Dombrowski hit a three at 7:49 and Ciara Thomas hit a layup on the ensuing possession for a 24-20 lead.

FSU led by as many as seven when Diggs knocked down a three-pointer for a 34-27 lead with 1:30 to play.

The Falcons rebounded in the third frame by outscoring FSU 29-14. The Falcons shot 52.9 percent from the floor in the decisive third quarter. A traditional three-point play at 4:50 from Adachi gave the visitors a 41-38 lead. The surge continued when Kyleigh Ramlow hit a three-pointer with 16 seconds left for a 55-46 edge.

Thomas closed the third with two free throws for Frostburg that pulled the hosts to within nine at 57-48.

The Bobcats made a run in the fourth by cutting the deficit to two behind a 9-0 run. Emory started the run with a layup at 9:52 and Emory closed the jolt with a jumper at 4:22 as FSU cut the score to 61-59.

Notre Dame hit a three-pointer at 3:36 from Adachi and Frostburg answered again by cutting it to four at 2:52 following Diggs free throws. However, the Falcons slowly increased its lead to eight, 69-61 with 1:39 showing.

FSU returns to action on Saturday at Urbana at 2:00 pm.
