URBANA, Ohio. – Two starters tied for 19 points as Frostburg lost a tough MEC contest on the road to Urbana University on Saturday afternoon 78-63.
The loss drops FSU to 2-12 overall and 1-7 in the league.
Senior Amanda Emory and first-year Ciara Thomas led FSU in scoring as both scored 19 points Saturday afternoon. Emory was 9-of-16 shooting while also grabbing seven rebounds. Thomas shot 6-of-11 and was a perfect 5-5 from deep while snagging three rebounds with one steal.
Graduate Victoria Diggs finished with 16 points, three rebounds, four three-pointers, four assists and three steals.
Tyra James led The Blue Knights with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Sylvia Hudson recorded 19 points on the afternoon shooting 7-of-10 while also collecting 10 rebounds.
After being down 16-7 at the end of the first quarter, The Bobcats regrouped to cut the score within two points off a three pointer from Diggs and a jumper from Emory with 1:39 left to play in the first half. A successful three point shot from Thomas followed by two Blue Knight free throws at the charity line closed out the half with Urbana leading 32-25.
FSU shot 53.8 percent in the third frame but was outscored by the Blue Knights 18-16. Play continued back and forth until Tyra James hit a jumper at 1:52 and Alyssa Garberich made a three pointer on the ensuing play to increase the Urbana lead 50-38. The Bobcats wouldn't go away quietly as Emory completed a jumper and one free throw to end the third quarter trailing 50-41.
Urbana started the fourth quarter hot finishing three straight possessions with three pointers coming out of the break. A three pointer and two free throws from Thomas as well as a layup from Emory cut The Blue Knights lead to 75-63 late in the fourth. An Urbana three pointer from Chloe Smith made the final score 78-63.
Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday at Wheeling for a 5:30 pm tip off.
