FSU Drops Salem 93-85

CUMBERLAND, Md. – Senior Amanda Emory posted a pair of career-highs and Frostburg finished with three starters in double figures as the Bobcats downed Salem 93-85, Saturday.

The 93 points are the most for the women since they scored 90 points twice in the 2016-17 season. The Bobcats used those 93 points for their second win of the season and the victory snapped a five-game losing skid.

Emory powered Frostburg offensively with 28 points and 21 rebounds. She shot 10-of-14 from the floor, knocked down two three-pointers and blocked two shots and handed out three assists.

Graduate Victoria added 17 points behind a near perfect 8-of-9 effort at the charity stripe. Ciara Thomas was the third starter in double figures with 10 points and four assists.

FSU shot 45.5 percent from the field and posted season-highs in rebounds (56) and assists (24). Behind Emory's dominance in the paint, FSU scored 38 points in the paint and collected 19 second-chance points.

The first quarter immediately kicked off with a three pointer from Salem but the Bobcats didn't wait long to respond as Emory hit a layup with an assist from sophomore Drew Dunathan. Despite the dominating statistics, the Bobcats trailed the entire first quarter but closed the scoring gap to only one after Diggs hit a jumper in the last second making the score 23-24.

Frostburg jumped out in front in the second quarter as Diggs started the quarter with a three pointer. After a bit of back and forth scoring, the Bobcats pulled ahead making the score 40-33 as Emory connected on two free throws. Frostburg extended their lead to 55-50 as sophomore Morgan Dombroski hit a layup on an assist from Diggs.

The Bobcats went on a 16-7 scoring run in the third quarter as Emory and first-year Ciera Thomas led the scoring charge with 6 and four points, respectively. The Bobcats pulled ahead of the Tigers with a nine point lead as the score going into the fourth quarter was 76-67. The fourth quarter was full of free throws as they went on another 15-7 run with 11 free throw attempts. The last free throw made by Diggs solidified the final score of 93-85.

With the Bobcats season-high in rebounding they out rebounded the Tigers 56 to 38. The Bobcats also collected season-highs when they outshot Salem from the line with 27 free throws made.

Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday, January 8 at 5:30 pm against Notre Dame (Ohio) at Allegany College of Maryland.
