Bobcats Downed by Golden Eagles

CUMBERLAND, Md. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team was downed by Charleston (W. Va.) 76-55 in a conference matchup. The Bobcats fall to 7-12 overall and 4-9 in Mountain East (MEC) play while the Golden Eagles advance to 16-3 overall and 10-3 in the MEC.
 
The first half started off slow for Frostburg as sophomore Maurice Carroll was the only Bobcat to tally two points in the first four minutes of the game. The Bobcats went on an 8-0 run to cut the scoring deficit when sophomores Jasiah Perry, Carroll, and Torrin Stephens each scored two points bringing the score to 15-8 in favor of Charleston.
 
Stephens converted on two free throws later in the half to give the Bobcats 10 points in a 25-10 game for Charleston. Junior Joe Adedayo closed out the half knocking down two three-pointers giving the halftime score of 33-19.
 
The second half scoring for Frostburg started when senior Daniel Alexander was awarded two free-throws and hit both of them. A minute later at 16:14 in the half, Alexander hit a jumper, and then continued on to hit a three-pointer at 15:53 to give a score of 47-26. Seniors Terry Kenner and Demetrich Williams combined for four more points as they brought the score to 49-30. Stephens would add four points to the Bobcat score over a minute span after hitting two layups. Over a seven minute span, Frostburg tallied 12 more points from six different players as the score read 72-46.
 
Adedayo powered FSU with 11 points, while Stephens contributed nine.
 
The Golden Eagles, who shot just under 50 percent from the floor for the game, finished with five players in double figures. Drew Rackley connected on four three-pointers and two free throws to total 14 points.
 
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 1 when it hosts West Virginia State at Garrett College in McHenry, Md. at 6:00 pm. Note: Cost of admission will be $3.00. Frostburg students with a valid student ID are free as well as children under the age of 6 will be free.
