Frostburg Loses At West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Senior Daniel Alexander finished with 24 points and junior Joe Adedayo collected 22 as the Frostburg State men's basketball team endured a 125 -77 defeat at West Liberty in MEC action, Saturday night.
 
The Bobcats settle at 6-10 overall with the loss and they are now 3-7 in the MEC.
 
Alexander poured in 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting with four three-pointers, eight rebounds, three steals and one assist. Adedayo was second in scoring with 22 points on 6-of-16 shooting with three rebounds and two steals.
 
West Liberty had three players finish with at least 20 points scoring. Will Yoakum led the way with 25 points, while Pat Robinson added 22. West Liberty won for the seventh-straight game and improves to 13-3 overall and 8-2 in the MEC.
 
A jumper from graduate Scott Kerr Jr. at 16:59 and layup from Adedayo 37 seconds later cut Frostburg's deficit down to three points inside the first four minutes of the opening half 9-6.
 
After a Bobcat layup from Alexander at 14:53 the Hilltoppers went on a 20-0 scoring run to take a 32-9 lead at 9:32. FSU answered with a three-point play from senior Jordan Dawson at 9:29.
 
Alexander hit a three pointer at 7:56 and a jumper at 6:33 making the score 37-17 in favor of the hosts. Sophomore Torrin Stephens hit two free throws at 4:43 before West Liberty ended the half with a 18-8 scoring run. Alexander closed the scoring in the first half by hitting a three pointer with 11 seconds to play making the score 61-26 at halftime.
 
The Hilltoppers scored the first basket of the second half off a layup from Will Yoakum. Sophomore Jamil Jones opened the scoring in the second half for the Bobcats with a jumper which was followed by a layup from sophomore Jasiah Perry 30 seconds later making the score 65-30 at 18:56.
 
Alexander hit a three-pointer followed by a three pointer from first-year Tyler Rodeheaver on the next possession at 14:08. Alexander and Rodeheaver did the same thing three minutes later making the score 99-52 with 10:59 to play.
 
FSU closed out the game on a 6-2 scoring run that started with a jumper from Alexander at 2:56. First-year Marcellus Carroll hit a jumper at 2:02 and Adedayo completed two free throws at 1:31. Luke Dyer hit a jumper at 1:03 to end the game earning the victory for the Hilltoppers 125-77.
  
Frostburg return to action this Wednesday at West Virginia Wesleyan for a 7:30 tipoff.
