Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Frostburg Ties Season Opener at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team began its 2019 season on Thursday in a deadlock. The Bobcats and host Shepherd University played even soccer for 110 minutes, resulting in a 1-1 tie.

Both scores were tallied within the first 45 minutes of play. Shepherd struck first when Sara Hohn scored off of a corner kick at the 19:24 mark. Frostburg State rallied 12 minutes later when sophomore Audra Curtin found the back of the net to even the score.

For the next 58:36 of regulation, neither Frostburg State nor Shepherd could break away from the other. Senior goalkeeper Emily Faust made three of her seven saves in the overtime period to keep the game alive as the match would end in a 1-1 draw.

Frostburg and Shepherd were evenly matched. The Bobcats were narrowly outshot by the Rams 29-24, including a 13-10 disadvantage in shots on goal. Frostburg held a 12-9 edge in saves, thanks in part to the combined efforts of Faust and first-year goalkeeper Taylor Longworth in net. Despite giving up the lone goal, Longworth made up for it with five saves.

Offensively, the Bobcats were led by senior Brooke Shehade. The senior led all players with seven shots, including a pair on goal. Classmate Jesse Dunagan and Curtin both fired at the net four times, with Curtin tallying the lone Bobcat goal.

Frostburg State women's soccer opens up home play on Saturday, September 7, when it welcomes Shippensburg University to Bobcat Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
