FROSTBURG, Md. – On Sunday afternoon, the Bobcats lost to the Lake Erie Storm in a five set match. FSU falls to 7-6 overall while Lake Erie advance to 4-12.
Frostburg picked up their sixth loss on the season after being defeated in five set by scores of 16-25, 25-23, 25-23, 16-25, and 7-15.
FSU recorded 54 kills as a team in the match along with 51 digs and nine service aces. Junior Rachel Snead recorded 14 kills while first-year Edwyna Lainez picked up 33 assists. Senior Cori Smothers earned 16 digs for the Bobcats.
A kill by senior Bailey Godlove along with a couple errors by the Storm powered the Bobcats to a 4-2 lead in the first set. Kills from First-year Jackie Sterenberg and Tatyanna Kittendorf as well as two service aces from first-year Jordan Patrick put FSU up 10-6. Lake Eire answered with a 7-0 run to re-capture the lead 16-14. The Storm closed out the first set with a kill by Courtney Rosebrook.
A kill by first-year Taylor Patrick and two service aces from Sterneberg put the Bobcats up 3-0 in the beginning of the second set. Play would continue back and forth until a late 4-0 run by the Storm tied the set 22-22. FSU earned the second set win with two kills by Godlove and one from Kittendorf.
Two kills by Snead and one by Lainez put the Bobcats up 3-0 to start the third set. A 4-0 run in the middle of the set gave FSU the lead 10-7. A kill by Snead and a service ace from Lainez captured the third set win for the Bobcats.
The fourth set started out with a battle back and forth until a 6-0 run by the Storm gave them the lead 11-6. A kill by Dora Olah earned Lake Erie the fourth set win to force a fifth set. The Storm jumped out to a 2-0 lead with kills from Carolin Santa and Dora Olah. Kills by Snead and Sterenberg tied the set 3-3. Lake Erie re-captured the lead until kills by first-year Bianca Smalls and Snead tied the set 6-6. Four kills and a service ace closed out the set for the Storm and captured the win in five sets.
