FROSTBURG, Md. – On Friday night, the Bobcats lost to the West Liberty Hilltoppers in a three set match. FSU fall to 7-7 overall 0-3 in the Mountain East Conference while WLU advance to 8-8 overall 1-1 in MEC play.
Frostburg picked up their seventh loss of the season after being defeated by scores of 25-18, 25-7, and 25-17.
FSU hit -.047 against West Liberty with 22 kills. The Bobcats also collected two service aces and 39 digs. Sophomore Hailey Altemus and first-year Jackie Sterenberg both had 7 kills on the night. First-year Edwyna Lainez earned 13 assists while senior Cori Smothers recorded 15 digs.
The Hilltoppers took control of the first set 3-0 off of a couple of Bobcat errors. A 10-0 run by WLU put them on top 15-5. Frostburg battled back with kills from senior Bailey Godlove and Altemus to make the score 18-12. A West Liberty kill from Mackenzie Daub gave the Hilltoppers the first set win.
West Liberty jumped out to an 8-1 lead early in the second set. Another 8-1 run by the Hilltoppers comfortably put them on top 19-6. A 4-0 run by WLU captured the win in the second set.
A kill from Altemus along with a service error by West Liberty tied the third set at 2-2. FSU trailed again before a kill from Sterenberg and service ace by Godlove tied the game 10-10. A late 9-2 run by WLU earned the win.
