FRSOTBURG, Md. – For the second time this season the Frostburg State volleyball team defeated Bowie State by a count of 3-0, Tuesday night.
The Bobcats had no problem improving its record to 6-3 on the season after dispatching the Bulldogs (1-6) by scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-9.
The Bobcats hit .218 with 33 kills in their dominating three set win. First-year Jackie Sterenberg had 13 kills on the night, while first-year Edwyna Lainez earned 14 assists and 12 digs. First-year Raven Pratt aided in six blocks and one kill while senior Cori Smothers recorded 13 digs.
The beginning of the first set consisted of even play back and forth until an 8-2 run powered by four kills from Sterenberg put Frostburg up 19-15. Kills by senior Bailey Godlove, first-year Taylor Patrick, and Sterenberg gave the Bobcats set one.
FSU jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the second set with three kills from Patrick and one from Lainez. The Bobcats wouldn't look back as a 10-2 run driven by two kills from both Patrick and Godlove put Frostburg up 22-11. Three attacking errors by the Bulldogs would hand the Bobcats the second set.
A 15-1 run by FSU in the beginning of the third set gave the Bobcats a conquering lead 16-3 lead fueled by six Sterenberg kills. A 5-1 run closed out the third set and gave FSU their sixth win on the season.
The Bobcats return to action this Friday night as they travel to Urbana to take on the Blue Knights. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
