FROSTBURG, Md. - Senior Gwen Schemm posted four points and five different players scored a goal for Frostburg as it cruised to a 7-0 win over visiting Wheeling University in MEC action, Sunday.Â
Â
The win improves Frostburg to 2-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the league. More importantly, Frostburg's attack seems to have found is footing as the Bobcats have scored 13 goals in the last two wins after scoring just twice in the first three games.Â
Â
Schemm finished the afternoon with one goal and two assists and all of her stats came in the opening half of action. Â
Â
The Bobcats opened the game scoring at 7:05 when sophomore Audra Curtin dropped off a pass to a charging Brooke Shehade who gathered the ball, took a couple of dribbles and buried a low right footed shot into the net.Â
Â
Two-and-a-half minutes later, the Bobcats added their second goal when Shemm floated a cross into the middle of the 18 where Curtin headed the pass into the upper left corner of the net.Â
Â
Schemm got in on the scoring action in the 14th minute when she scored on a free kick from just outside the 18. FSU tacked on its fourth score of the opening half when junior Helen Francis corralled a pass from Schemm and dribbled around her defender and knocked a soft shot into the right corner of the net.Â
Â
Frostburg scored for the fifth time in the opening stanza on another free kick. Sophomore Kori Striano took the free kick from in front of the Wheeling bench and hooked the ball towards the net. Junior Emily Lehman ran onto the pass and knocked it into the net for her first goal of the season.Â
Â
The tandem of Shehade and Curtin opened the second half like they began the game as Curtin sent a cross into the 18 that found the left foot of Shehade who connected on the shot and sent it into the left side of the net.Â
Â
The final tally of the afternoon came in the 56th minute as Francis sent a long pass toward the right post from 30 yards out. Curtin then beat the Wheeling keeper to the ball and knocked the shot into the lower left side of the net.Â
Â
FSU outshot the Cardinals 28-1 and Wheeling's only shot occurred in the 74th minute.Â
Â
Shehade finished the afternoon with two goals and Curtin added two goals and two assists. Sophomore Stephanie Vigezzi started in net for Frostburg and played the entire first half. She was replaced in the second by first-year Taylor Longworth.Â
Â
FSU returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to West Liberty for an MEC match at 7:00 pm.
