FROSTBURG, Md. - Three different Bobcats scored a goal on Sunday afternoon to lead Frostburg to a 3-0 shutout of Wheeling in MEC action.
Frostburg pushed its record to 2-2-1 on the season with its third clean sheet of the fall. The Bobcats are 2-1-1 in league play.
Frostburg jumped to a 2-0 cushion at halftime with a goal in the 16th minute and again in the 36th minute. The Bobcats used a little give and go action for the first tally. First-year Addison Keja found Youness Benmouna with a pass just outside the 18 and Benmouna flipped the ball back towards the middle of the field. Keja possessed the pass and after a few touches, he smashed a left footed shot into the right corner of the net past a diving keeper.
The combo of first-year Bobby Riffle and sophomore Jose Rodriguez finished off the first half. The goal was similar to the first as Rodriguez dribbled towards the center of the field. He passed the ball to Riffle who flipped it back to Rodriguez for the goal and a 2-0 edge.
The Bobcats outshot Wheeling 8-5 in the opening 45 minutes and Bobcat sophomore keeper Joel Assal made two saves.
Frostburg tacked on a third score in the 86
th minute when first-year Grant Scibeck flicked a diving pass off his head towards the center of the six-yard box where sophomore Camillo Ortiz dove and headed the ball into the goal.
Assal finished the afternoon with five saves for his third shutout of the fall. The win dropped his goals against average to a miniscule 0.77 through five games.
