Field Hockey Falls At Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Frostburg State field hockey team fell to the Bloomsburg Huskies, 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Bloomsburg. 
 
The Bobcats are now 0-7 on the season while Bloomsburg moves to 2-4 overall. 
 
Senior goalkeeper Sierra Smizer faced 17 shots and posted five saves. First-year Emily Hughes added to the team effort tallying one shot on goal. 
 
The Bobcats immediately put up a defensive effort in the first quarter of the game when Bloomsburg posted a shot in the first minute that was sent wide of the cage. In the first quarter, Frostburg defended four penalty corners not allowing any in the first quarter to convert to goals. The first Bloomsburg goal came from a long pass up the right side of the field giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead. 
 
The second quarter kicked off with a goal from Bloomsburg off a reverse sweep leading the Huskies to a 2-0 cushion. Smizer blocked five shots in the second quarter tallying five of her saves. The Bobcats were awarded a penalty corner in the 27th minute but the shot from Hughes was saved by defender Callie Edwards.  
 
The third and final goal from the Huskies came in the third quarter. The second penalty corner for the Bobcats resulted in a shot from first-year Taylor Henderson that sailed wide of the goal.  
 
The Bobcats faced five shots in a row blocking all of them with Smizer registering four more saves in the final stanza.
