Bobcats Drop Home Contest Against Coker In OT

FROSTBURG, Md. – Junior Gabby Rachuba and first-year Emily Hughes each scored a goal, but visiting Coker found the net when it needed it the most for a 3-2 overtime win over the Bobcats, Saturday.

The game headed for the extra 10 minute frame after the first four quarters produced a 2-2 deadlock.

First-year Taylor Henderson ripped a shot wide early in OT and sophomore Taylor Hackett was awarded a penalty stroke in the 63rd minute with a chance to win the game. However, her attempt was saved by Coker keeper Kayla Hnasko. In the 65th minute Rachuba had a shot also saved by Hnasko.

Three minutes later, Kaleigh Cordrey scored off a pass from Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole to send the Cobras home with the win.

The win lifts the visitors to 3-2 overall on the season, while the loss drops FSU to 0-6.

Coker outshot the Bobcats 17-14 and Bobcat senior keeper Sierra Smizer turned away nine shots. Hackett posted her first defensive save of the season when she cleared a shot off the backline early in the fourth quarter.

Kelly Mason scored in the 11th minute to give the Cobras a 1-0 cushion, before Rachuba answered nine minutes later after she dribbled the ball nearly half of the field before burying her shot into the ride side of the net.

Lisa Rempt closed the first half scoring and gave Coker a 2-1 advantage at intermission when she scored off an assist from Amelia Gajewski at 31:13.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Frostburg tied things at 2-2 when junior Brooke Lafayette connected with Hughes for the second goal of the afternoon. It was Hughes' second goal of the season and the first assist in '19 from Lafayette.

However, Coker escaped Western Maryland with the win following Cordrey's score in extra time.

FSU returns to action tomorrow at Bloomsburg at 1:00 pm.
