FROSTBURG, Md. - Frostburg senior Brooke Shehade scored three times and sophomore Audra Curtin added two goals as the Bobcats rolled to an MEC women's soccer victory over Urbana, 6-2, Wednesday afternoon.
The Bobcats improve to 1-2-1 with the MEC vitcory and they are now 1-0-0 in the league. The six goals are the most for the Bobcats since late in the '15 season.
FSU jumped out to a 2-0 cushion as senior Brooke Shehade found sophomore Audra Curtin just inside the 18 and Curtin connected on the goal in the lower right corner for a 1-0 lead just 9:48 into the game.
Just under 30 seconds later, Shehade dribbled past diving keeper Hazel Sanz and scored with a soft left footed shot for a 2-0 cushion.
Alyssa Edwards pulled the Blue Knights (0-3, 0-1 MEC) within one when she slipped past Bobcat keeper Taylor Longworth for a goal less than five seconds after FSU made it to 2-0.
Senior Jesse Dunagan pushed the host lead back to two when she lifted a left footed shot over Sanz for a 3-1 lead at 15:29. First-year Marley Copes was credited with the assist.
Edwards narrowed the halftime deficit for Urbana to 2-1 when she connected on her second goal of the half at 38:56.
Shehade made it a hat trick in the second half with two more goals and Frostburg added three goals to close the afternoon with a 6-2 win.
Just over 10 minutes into the second stanza, Urbana was whistled for a foul inside the 18 and Shehade connected on the attempt for a 4-2 lead.
Curtin scored for the second time in the 62nd minute when she ran onto a through ball from Shehade. Curtin ran past a defender and beat the keeper with a shot in the lower left corner for a 5-2 lead.
Shehade's third score came in the 69th minute when she sprinted past her defender and then dribbled to her left before burying her left footed shot into the side of the net past a diving keeper.
Shehade attempted 14 shots on the afternoon to lead Frostburg and the Bobcats outshot the visiting Blue Knights 24-9. First-year keeper Taylor Longworth needed just one save for her first collegiate win.
Edwards led the Blue Knights with two goals on a team-best three shots.
Frostburg returns to action on Sunday when they host Wheeling at 11:00 am.
