Bobcat Men Drop Home Opener To Urbana

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg men's soccer team carried a 1-0 lead into intermission but couldn't hold the lead in the second half as Urbana rallied for a 2-1 MEC win, Wednesday.
 
The Bobcats settle at 1-2-1 on the young season with a 1-1-1 MEC slate. The win lifts Urbana to 1-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
 
Frostburg took six shots in the opening half of action putting four of them on frame. Youness Benmouna took Frostburg's first shot of the evening in the 18th minute, while first-year Tamino Brown attempted to score at 23:43. However, both shots were saved by Blue Knight keeper Jacob Henriksen.
 
At 34:25, the Bobcats broke onto the scoreboard when Brown chased down a ball to end line and began dribbling toward the goal. After a few touches, he centered a pass to junior Randy Putnam just outside the six yard box. Putnam then fired a low shot into the center of the net for a 1-0 cushion.
 
Urbana answered as both came within the first 10 minutes of the second half. Jake Wischmeier connected on a left footed shot at 49:09 that sailed into the top of the goal. In the 55th minute, Frostburg accidentally knocked the ball in its own net for a 2-1 Blue Knight lead.
 
Urbana held a 9-5 edge in shot's in the second period, but both teams put four on goal. Henriksen turned away a shot from Brown at 60:56 and he capped the game with a save on a shot from senior Blake Geatz at 86:02.
 
Bobcat sophomore keeper Joel Assal needed just one save in the first half when he denied an attempt from Noah Stew-Lewis in the 30th minute. In the 79th minute, Assal made a diving save to deny Josh Neal a goal.
 
Urbana finished with a 15-11 edge in shots and UU's keeper Henriksen added seven saves.
 
Frostburg hosts Wheeling this Sunday at Bobcat Stadium at 1:30 pm.
