ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. – The Frostburg women's soccer team dropped a non-league game at Eckerd College, 3-1, Sunday night.
Both teams endured a late start to the Division II showdown as weather on the Gulf Coast delayed the start for nearly two hours. The loss drops the Bobcats to 0-2-1 on the season while the Tritons remain undefeated at 3-0.
The hosts opened the contest with the first two goals in the 11
th minute from Lashanti Williams and the 25
th minute from Victoria Grant.
FSU narrowed the gap the 2-1 when sophomore Audra Curtin scored off a pass from senior Brooke Shehade at 34:25. The score was the second goal of the season for Curtin on her only shot of the night and it was Shehade's first assist of the fall campaign.
The Tritons added the third and final goal of the night in the 74
th minute when Mackenzie Maggio scored an unassisted tally.
Eckerd outshot Frostburg 12-6 and the Tritons put 12 of those attempts on goal. Both teams were awarded six corner kicks.
Sophomore Kori Striano, Shehade and junior Helen Francis each had shots turned away by Triton keeper Casey Winn in the opening half.
Bobcat senior keeper Emily Faust got the start in goal and made two saves in nearly 30 minutes of work. First-year Taylor Longworth played the rest of the contest in net and allowed the final two goals while stopping two shots.
FSU opens MEC play on Wednesday when it hosts Urbana at 4:00 pm.
