FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team defeated Neumann on Saturday afternoon in the 2019 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament semifinals, 12-6. Junior Michael Sipes was one of four Bobcats to score multiple goals in the game, netting three goals and collecting an assist in the victory.

The Bobcats struck first in the contest, as Sipes netted his first goal just under two minutes into the game. FSU scored two more goals, one from junior Jimmy Lucas and the other from senior Paul Ruppert, before Neumann got on the board. At the end of the first quarter, the Bobcats held a 3-1 lead.Â

First-year Ryan Yashinskie netted two goals in the second quarter for Frostburg, giving the Bobcats a 5-1 ege entering the halftime intermission.Â

Coming out of the break, the Knights shrunk their deficit to two goals, after sophomores Eric Conlon and Ryan McNichol scored 38 seconds apart, making the score 5-3. Senior Kyle Kinney stopped the Neumann run, scoring Frostburg's first goal of the half with 10:31 on the clock.

After a Knights goal from Chris Bellon, the Bobcats scored the three out of the next four goals to end the third quarter. Sipes scored his second and third goals of the contest in the run, while Ruppert added another goal with the extra-man advantage. Going into the final quarter, the Bobcats held a 9-5 lead.Â

First-year Nicholas Nordhausen scored two goals in the fourth quarter, while junior Jake O'Flahaven also added a score, as the Bobcats cruised to a 12-6 victory. Â

The Bobcats dominated in the team stats, winning 19 out of 22 faceoffs, and they out-shot the Knights, 52-29. The Bobcats used a total of six goalies to hold Neumann to just six goals.

Sophomore Michael Thorne won 18 of Frostburg's 19 faceoffs and picked up a game-high 14 ground balls. First-year Jake Bowan dished out a game-high three assists. 2019

The Bobcats will play again tomorrow in the ECAC Championship game against Westminster, who took down Pfeiffer, 15-14 in the other semifinal game on Saturday afternoon. The initial faceoff wis scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium.
