Frostburg Men Lose In CAC Semifinals

YORK, Pa. – Frostburg junior Paul Ruppert scored twice, but the second-ranked York Spartans scored the game's first seven goals en route to a 10-3 win over the Bobcats in the CAC Tournament semifinals, Wednesday evening.

The Bobcats fall to 10-8 overall this season and they now await a bid to the ECAC Tournament that will be announced on Monday, May 6.

Meanwhile, the Spartans improve to 17-1 with their 11th-consecutive win. YCP will host second-seeded and fourth-ranked Salisbury this Saturday in the CAC Tournament Championship. The league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament will be on the line.

Hunter Davis scored three of York's first seven goals and the hosts used the first 26 minutes of action to build a 7-0 cushion.

Ruppert took a pass from first-year Jake Bowman and connected on a shot with 57 seconds left in the second quarter for the Bobcats' only goal of the opening half.

Frostburg opened the second half with consecutive goals as first-year Gavin Schattal scored at 8:00 in the third and Ruppert scored his second with 4:50 showing as FSU narrowed its deficit to 7-3.

Brendan McGrath, Billy Sasso and Davis scored the game's final three goals for York for the 10-3 win.

York outshot Frostburg 46-31 and FSU finished just 18-of-28 on clears.

However, the Bobcat defense aso held York scoreless on extra-man opportunities (0-for-5), while junior keeper Jack Marks stopped 17 shots for the fourth time this season. Junior Sam Natvig and sophomore Shawn Winans combined to win six face-offs.
